EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Miami Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Saturday night's game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Maxwell was ruled out for the game at halftime.

Maxwell walked off slowly and headed to the Dolphins' locker room following the Jets' second possession, which ended with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh recovering a fumble by New York quarterback Bryce Petty following a sack by defensive end Cameron Wake.

Maxwell's injury brought an early end to the anticipated battle between the cornerback and Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The duo have been trading barbs on and off the field with one another for the last two seasons. Marshall said this week he would carry a penalty flag with him to assist officials in case they miss a penalty on Maxwell.
