MIAMI, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A bittersweet feeling sweeps around Hard Rock Stadium these days.

The Miami Dolphins are in a prime spot to fight for a playoff berth, yet they might have to do it without quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The offensive line also took a hit Tuesday when the Dolphins put center Mike Pouncey on injured reserve.

Pouncey, 27, has played in just five games this season. He has been hampered by a hip injury.

Earlier this month, Pouncey told the Miami Herald that he didn't know if he would play again.

"You've got to ask coach [Adam] Gase that one," Pouncey told Adam Beasley. "I don't know. We'll see how it goes."

The Dolphins are taking the "long view" with the three-time Pro Bowl selection, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

"With Ryan Tannehill dealing with a sprained ACL and MCL and out for at least the next few games, Miami's facing an uphill battle," wrote NFL.com's Mark E. Ortega.

Pouncey hasn't played a 16-game season since 2012.
