The Miami Dolphins released defensive tackle Leon Orr on Wednesday after finding out he was arrested the day before on charges of possessing marijuana and a controlled substance.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase told reporters the team got word of the arrest during Wednesday's practice and immediately cut Orr.

"We're in the middle of the season. We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority," Gase said. "If guys have other priorities, they can go about their business somewhere else.

"For us, the one thing that we do talk about quite a bit is being invested to each other. That's what it's really about. There's a lot of people putting in a lot of work -- players, coaches and staff members. Everybody is counting on everybody to do the right thing. That's really the only way you have a chance to be successful. If we have people pulling in different directions and this isn't their top priority, we'd rather not be around those people."

According to a Collier County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office report, Orr was pulled over near a toll plaza on Interstate 75 because of illegally tinted windows on his BMW.

Orr, 24, faces a misdemeanor marijuana charge and a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. He posted a $7,000 bond.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Orr was signed to the Dolphins' practice squad in September and was promoted to the active roster in October. Orr, who played five games this season and recorded one tackle, played at Florida and was undrafted out of college. He played in three games with the Oakland Raiders in 2015.
