Coach Mike Zimmer said in his weekly radio appearance on KFAN-FM in the Twin Cities that he expects Smith and Munnerlyn to play, although he wasn't certain about Newman or Diggs.
Newman, plagued by a neck injury, has seven pass deflections and 25 tackles. Should he be unable to play, Trae Waynes would get the start.
Diggs, nursing an ailing knee, did not participate in Tuesday's or Wednesday's practice. Diggs leads the team in receptions (67) and receiving yards (747) and could be in line to return punts if he's eligible to play on Thursday, as Marcus Sherels (rib, ankle) has been ruled out.
Smith, who leads the Vikings with 73 tackles, is dealing with an ankle injury sustained in Sunday's 30-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Munnerlyn, who is also has an ankle injury, has 38 tackles this season.
Detroit linebacker DeAndre Levy (knee) is listed as questionable, an upgrade from when he was regarded as doubtful for last weekend's game versus Jacksonville.
Defensive end Ziggy Ansah (ankle), running back Theo Riddick (ankle), center Graham Glasgow (ankle), defensive tackle Khyri Thornton (foot) and special teams player Don Carey (hamstring) are also listed as questionable.
All five practiced on a limited basis this week.
