Watch: Mark Sanchez turns Santa Monica street guitarist

By Alex Butler

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- If things don't work out for Mark Sanchez with the Denver Broncos...well, they better work out with the Denver Broncos.

Sanchez tried his hand at some acoustic guitar recently in Santa Monica. While the quarterback said he plays "a mean guitar," his vocals need some fine-tuning. The 29-year-old went "undercover," wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a fashionable vest.

The Long Beach native and former star quarterback at the University of Southern California played Justin Bieber, Counting Crows, Jack Johnson, and took other requests in the stunt for DraftKings. He was stumped when onlookers asked him to sing Gwen Stefani and the Beatles.

"I look like a better guitar player than I am," Sanchez said in the video.

Sanchez is battling Trevor Siemian for the starting quarterback job for the defending world champions.

He has three turnovers in two preseason games. Sanchez started the first preseason game, but Siemian started the second contest. Last season in Philadelphia, Sanchez completed 59-of-91 passes, for 616 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. In his last season as a full-time starter in 2012 for the New York Jets, Sanchez completed 246-of-453 passes, for 2,883 yards,13 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

"I feel like I squandered an opportunity to separate myself," Sanchez told reporters Saturday, via NFL.com. "Poor quarterback play." The Broncos lost 31-24 to the San Francisco 49ers in the preseason bout.

Rookie Paxton Lynch also believes he's in the mix for the quarterback job.

"I've always believed I was," Lynch told reporters Saturday. "No matter what the situation was. Like I said from day one, I'm confident that I [can] make the best of this opportunity. That's what I have been doing. But those guys have been playing well too in front of me."

Sanchez is due $4.5 million this season and is a free agent in 2017.
