Jacksonville Jaguars interview former Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz for defensive coordinator

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A defense that allowed the fourth most yards per game in the AFC this year is looking for a new coordinator.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have interviewed former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz for its "defensive coordinator vacancy," according to FOX Sports' Alex Marvez.

Jacksonville allowed the second most passing yards per game and the most points per game [28] in the AFC this season.

Schwartz complied a 29-51 record in four seasons with the Lions, going 0-1 in the postseason, from 2009 to 2013.

The 49-year-old began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Maryland and University of Minnesota in 1989 and 1990. He entered the NFL ranks as a college/pro scout in 1993 with the Cleveland Browns, where he stayed until being hired as a defensive assistant in 1996 by the Baltimore Ravens. Schwartz moved onto the Tennessee Titans in 1999, where he served as a defensive assistant, linebackers coach and defensive coordinator until 2008. His last pro job came in 2014, as defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.

The Jaguars fired former defensive coordinator Bob Babich earlier this month.
