Rockets' John Wall agrees to buyout, expected to join Clippers

June 28 (UPI) -- The Houston Rockets and John Wall agreed to a contract buyout, sending the All-Star point guard to free agency.

Sources told ESPN, Yahoo Sports and The Athletic on Monday about the agreement and said that Wall is expected to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers when he clears waivers. NBA free agency starts Thursday.

Wall, 31, did not play last season due to a mutual decision with the Rockets. He was due a $47.4 million player option this season before he negotiated the buyout.

The five-time All-Star averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game in 40 starts in 2020 for the Rockets. Wall joined the Rockets in a 2020 trade from the Washington Wizards.

He missed the entire 2019-20 season due to injuries.

Wall spent the first nine years of his career with the Wizards. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft averaged 19.1 points, 9.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game in his first 613 NBA appearances.

He signed a four-year, $170 million contract extension in 2017 with the Wizards.
