May 23 (UPI) -- The NBA announced Thursday it has canceled the 2019 Global Camp, a draft showcase for international players, only a week before the event was scheduled to begin.
NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe confirmed the event's cancellation to ESPN. The camp was scheduled May 30 to June 2 in Monaco, France.
VanDeWeghe told ESPN the event was cancelled over "logistical issues."
"The camp will return in the future," VanDeWeghe said.
The Global Camp was designed as an international version of the NBA Combine. Prospects would meet with teams, undergo medical examinations, and perform drills in hopes of increasing their draft stock.
The camp was held in Treviso, Italy, last year.
The camp was likely going to be held at Salle Gaston Médecin, the home of the AS Monaco Basket. The arena will be unavailable to the NBA if AS Monaco Basket advances past the quarterfinals of the French playoffs, according to ESPN.
The 2019 NBA Draft is June 20.
