Yogi Ferrell scored a career-high 32 points Friday in Portland and when his first 10-day contract expires, the guard will get a two-year contract from the Dallas Mavericks.
The Vertical reported Saturday that Ferrell will get a two-year deal from the Mavericks on Tuesday. The report surfaced after Ferrell scored 71 points in four wins for Dallas, culminating when he made nine 3-pointers at Portland.
"I love the way he is playing," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "He has a great team vibe to him. He has great energy. He is an opportunistic guy, and it's pretty clear he's out to prove a point."
Ferrell spent four years at Indiana, went undrafted and began this season with the Brooklyn Nets and appeared in 10 games. He averaged 18.7 points in 18 games in the D-League and signed a 10-day contract with the Mavericks on Jan. 28.
Ferrell made his debut with Dallas in last Sunday's win at San Antonio and injuries to veteran guards Deron Williams and J.J. Barea created the opportunity for significant playing time.
