June 24 (UPI) -- The United States Postal Service on Thursday honored New York Yankees great Yogi Berra with a customized stamp that will be released to the public.
The Forever stamp, which depicts a smiling Berra in his Yankees uniform with the words "Yogi Berra Forever," was unveiled during a small ceremony at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center in Little Falls, N.J. The stamp is now being sold across the U.S. at post offices.
"We hope this stamp will serve as a reminder of Yogi's larger-than-life personality, both on and off the field," said Ron Bloom, chairman of the U.S. Postal Service board of governors.
Sportscaster Bob Costas and Berra's sons, Larry, Tim and Dale, joined Bloom at the ceremony, among others.

"The Berra family wishes to thank the U.S. Postal Service for honoring our father with a Forever stamp for his prowess as a baseball icon who demonstrated the right way to earn the respect of family, friends, competitors and people everywhere," the family said in a statement.
Berra, who died in 2015 at the age of 90, won three American League MVP awards. He was an 18-time All-Star selection and played in the World Series in 14 of his 18 seasons with the Yankees. He won 10 World Series titles as a player and three more as a coach for the New York Mets and Yankees.
After retiring from playing in 1963, Berra guided two teams to the World Series as a manager. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972 and posthumously received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
