May 23 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier threw out Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Cody Bellinger with a laser to home plate Wednesday night.
Kiermaier, who was a victim of a good throw Tuesday when Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo gunned him down at third base, got payback with a rocket throw from center field to keep the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning.
With runners on first and second, Dodgers catcher Russell Martin hit a liner to center. Kiermaier charged the ball as Bellinger made the turn around third base.
Kiermaier placed a perfect one-hop for Rays catcher Travis d'Arnaud, who made the tag on Bellinger for the third out of the inning.
"Huge," Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said about Kiermaier's throw. "I don't think it had any carryover [from Tuesday], but for him to do what he did on defense and then at the plate to really separate the game was big for us."
Kiermaier's throw clocked in at 100.6 mph, which is the fastest for an outfield assist this season, according to MLB.com.
The Rays defeated the Dodgers 8-1 on Wednesday to wrap up a short two-game series. The teams split the set at one game apiece.
Tampa Bay begins a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.
