Mike Trout: Angels star hits 459-foot bomb vs. Mariners

June 12 (UPI) -- Los Angles Angels slugger Mike Trout went yard twice in a loss to the Seattle Mariners.

One of the bombs traveled 459 feet in the 5-3 setback Monday at Safeco Field in Seattle. Trout hit his first long ball in the top of the first inning. He stepped into the box as the second batter of the game, facing Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc.

The Mariners southpaw got Ian Kinsler to line out in the first at-bat. He began his exchange with Trout with a called strike. LeBlanc worked a 2-2 count against the two-time American League MVP, before tossing in a 79.5-mph changeup. Trout sent the pitch to left field for his 20th home run of the season. But the bigger blast came later.

Albert Pujols followed with another solo homer two batters later, giving the Angels a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Nelson Cruz answered for the Mariners, hitting a two-run shot in the bottom of the first frame. He returned in the fourth inning with a solo blast. Ryon Hely also homered in the fourth inning, giving the Mariners a 5-2 edge.

Trout returned in the top of the eighth inning to cut into the deficit. This time, he stepped in to face Mariners reliever Ryan Cook. The righty worked a 2-2 count against Trout, before throwing a 94.8-mph fastball.

Trout turned on the pitch and blasted it to dead center. The blast left his bat at 115 mph and had a launch angle of 19 degrees, according to Statcast.

The six-time All-Star is now hitting .304, with 21 home runs and 55 RBIs on the season. Trout had gone seven games without a home run entering Monday's game. He hit nine bombs in April and went yard eight times in May.
