Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman deleted his Twitter account Monday, a day after he sent a profane direct message to a fan who was criticizing him on the social-media platform.

An Astros fan, who previously used a profanity while writing that Bregman was a jerk when he met him while partying, added on Twitter that the team should consider trading the infielder.

Bregman replied by saying, "You have zero clue about baseball lol (crying face) oh my lord." Bregman subsequently sent a message to the fan, calling him a clown and adding, "I forgot I shouldn't give flees (sic) on the (bleep) of society the time of day. We maybe should trade you but frat boys don't get traded."

The fan later posted screen shots of the exchange.

Bregman, 23, is hitting .256 with a .338 on-base percentage, eight homers and 27 RBIs in 84 games for the first-place Astros this season. The LSU product broke into the majors with Houston last year.
