Teixeira, 36, will leave the game for good at the end of the season. The three-time All-Star is in the final season of an 8-year, $180 million contract with the Yankees. He made $22.5 million this season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Friday morning that he had "no indication as to reason" that the Yankees called a 3 p.m. press conference Friday with Teixeira.

The switch-hitter was not in the Yankees' Lineup Thursday against the New York Mets. In 2009, he led baseball with 39 home runs and 122 RBI. This season he is hitting .198, with 10 home runs and 27 RBI in 77 games. Teixeira is a career .269 hitter and has swatted 404 career long balls.
