Police raise possibility of overdose in Tommy Hanson's death

ATLANTA, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Authorities still have no official cause of death for former Major League Baseball pitcher Tommy Hanson, who died abruptly Monday. However, the possibility of an overdose was raised by police, a report says.

Hanson, who pitched over a period of four years for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels, died suddenly Monday while he was visiting friends in Atlanta, officials said.

Hanson's friends to him to a nearby emergency room, where a Coweta County incident report says authorities stated that an overdose might be responsible for the athlete's condition.

Hanson's official cause of death, though, has not yet been determined. Officials will wait for a full toxicology report before they can determine what killed the 29-year-old pitching ace.

Police have said there are no indications of foul play.

Hanson last played in the majors during the 2013 season, after he suffered from various injuries and also mourned the death of his younger brother. He played in his first game in 2009 for Atlanta, where he played through the 2012 season.

After leaving the Angels, Hanson played on various minor league teams in 2014 and 2015.
