Hamilton signed a multi-year contract extension with Mercedes in August.

The 39-year-old made his Formula 1 debut in 2007 with McLaren. He signed with Mercedes in 2013. The Hertfordshire, England, native earned his first win at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix.

He went on to win world championships in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. His seven titles tie Michael Schumacher for the most in Formula 1 history.

Hamilton's 103 total victories are the most in Formula 1 history. He finished third in the driver's standings last season, with 234 points, behind champion Max Verstappen (575) and his Red Bull Racing teammate, Sergio Perez (285). Hamilton's 2023 season featured six Top 3 finishes. He finished second three times, trailing Verstappen each time.

Hamilton hasn't won a Formula 1 race since 2021. He finished sixth in the driver's standings in 2022 and second in 2021. He won his seventh championship in 2020.

The 2024 season will start with the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. That race will be held March 2 in Bahrain.
