UFC star Conor McGregor jumps into MMA cage, pushes official

By Alex Butler

Nov. 11 (UPI) -- He might not be booked for a UFC fight, but Conor McGregor had no trouble recently jumping into an MMA cage.

"The Notorious" did notorious things Friday at Bellator 187 in Dublin.

He was watching a fight between SBG Ireland teammate Charlie Ward and John Redmond. Ward won the match.

After the Bellator prelim bout, McGregor jumped over a tall wall of the cage and fell into the action. He ran full speed and jumped into Ward, before getting into it with referee Marc Goddard.

Goddard attempted to pull the emotional teammates away from one another and McGregor didn't like it.

McGregor followed Goddard around the stage before shoving him in the back. McGregor was shouting at the veteran official relentlessly. He eventually exited.

A penalty for McGregor's actions has not yet been announced.

McGregor has not had a UFC fight this year. His last fight came in a boxing bout loss to Floyd Mayweather in August in Las Vegas.

"I operate with integrity, belief and values," Goddard tweeted Saturday.

"I hold MMA in a deep rooted place in my life and have considered myself most fortunate to have done so for so long."

"Family first. Everything else second."

"Respect."

This isn't the first testy interaction between McGregor and Goddard. McGregor was trying to coach up Artem Lobov during his UFC Fight Night 118 loss to Andre Fili. Goddard noticed McGregor's instruction and told him to go back to his seat at the Poland arena.

Spike and Bellator are using the McGregor melee to promote Bellator 187 in the United States.

"Mr. McGregor is not bigger than the sport of MMA!!!" ABC president Mike Mazzulli told MMA Junkie.
