New San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is expected to run his own offense and will not hire an offensive coordinator in 2017.

The 37-year-old Shanahan plans to coordinate the 49ers' offense and intends to hire Atlanta Falcons offensive assistant Mike McDaniel as the team's "run-game guru" and Rich Scangarello as the quarterbacks coach, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.

McDaniel, 33, has worked with Shanahan in Houston, Washington and Cleveland. Scangarello, the offensive coordinator at Wagner College, was a quality control coach with Shanahan and the Falcons in 2015.

Shanahan has been an NFL offensive coordinator since 2008 when he landed job with the Houston Texans. He spent stints as OC with the Washington Redskins (2010-2013) and Cleveland Browns (2014) and the past two seasons with the Falcons.

Shanahan, who saw his Falcons average an NFL-best 33.8 points per contest in 2016, will now take over an offense that finished 31st in yards per game this past season.

The Niners officially hired Shanahan on Monday to be their head coach, just hours after he watched as the Falcons squandered a 25-point lead to fall to the New England Patriots 34-28 in overtime in Super Bowl LI. Shanahan's deal is expected to run for six years, matching the contract the 49ers gave new general manager John Lynch.

Shanahan becomes the 49ers' fourth coach in as many years, replacing Chip Kelly, who followed Jim Tomsula and Jim Harbaugh.

Falcons running backs coach Bobby Turner, 67, is expected to have the same role with the 49ers, according to reports Wednesday. Turner has served as an NFL running backs coach the past 22 seasons with Denver (1995-2009), Washington (2010-14) and Atlanta (2015-16).
