THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Despite the boos and in spite of fans chanting for Jared Goff on Sunday at the Coliseum, Rams coach Jeff Fisher is sticking to his guns.

Case Keenum will remain the starting quarterback and Goff will back him up.

"Case is starting," Fisher said.

This in spite of a four-game losing streak, a 3-5 overall record and Goff being the undisputed future face of the franchise.

None of that matters -- for now.

What does take precedence is the Rams remain mathematically in the playoff race, if not for the NFC West Division chase at least for a wild card.

And as long as that is the case, Fisher will play the quarterback he believes gives the Rams the best chance to get there.

For now, that is Keenum.

"Our expectations are we're going to stay in it, so we'll see," Fisher said.

That said, Fisher is leaving open the possibility Goff could still unseat Keenum if he shows he is the best quarterback to march the Rams deeper into contention.

"I'm not ruling out the possibility that he'll make a playoff run for us as well," Fisher said. "But for right now, Case is starting and we're going to New York."

Fisher also pointed out the Jets' complicated defense might be a bad fit for Goff to get his first start.

"Jared is improving. I keep saying that as you guys keep asking the questions, he's improving," Fisher said. "But, Case right now, especially against this defense, gives us our best chance. It's an extremely complicated defense, and they can pressure the quarterback, they can do anything they want to do. They're very, very talented. Our focus is this week against the Jets, and Case will be under center."

The Jets game marks a two-game stretch against teams the Rams have every right to believe they can beat, with the Miami Dolphins visiting the Coliseum in two weeks.

It's incumbent that the Rams take advantage, and that means the offense improving on the two touchdowns it scored over the last two games.

"When you lose consecutively like we did, there's always a point of emphasis, or a focus that goes in, to see what's going on," Fisher said. "Obviously, as a staff today, as we looked at the tape, some things came up that were -- I guess I'm stating the obvious with respect to them -- but 10 points in the last two weeks offensively is not going to get it done. That's by and large the biggest issue that we're facing right now, is our lack of ability to score points."
