Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitcher Francisco Liriano was diagnosed with a mild concussion on Saturday.

Liriano was injured in the eighth inning of Friday's American League Division Series game against the Texas Rangers when he was hit in the back of the head or neck area by a line drive off the bat of Carlos Gomez.

Blue Jays trainer George Poulis told reporters Saturday that Liriano will undergo further testing on Sunday. There is no timetable for his return.

After Friday's game, Liriano was seen being wheeled into an ambulance on a stretcher with a brace around his neck. He was taken to a local hospital for tests, but later cleared to fly home with the team, according to the Blue Jays.

"He's one of my best friends," said Gomez, a former teammate of Liriano with Minnesota. "I wasn't as scared for what might happen because I noticed the ball didn't hit him solid, but I'll pray that everything's OK and just wait for the diagnosis."

The 32-year-old Liriano was 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 10 appearances (eight starts) with Toronto since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates at the trade deadline.
