He was released by Miami at the end of training camp in 2015 and signed by the Washington Redskins' practice squad in November. Johnson was released by Washington on May 2.

Johnson was signed by the Patriots on May 9 and played in two games in 2016 with the Patriots, accumulating five total tackles and one quarterback hit.

To make room, the Patriots released offensive lineman Ian Silberman from the practice squad.

Silberman, 23, was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 15. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers out of Boston College in 2015.
