Veteran outfielder Ryan Braun was not in the starting lineup on Thursday afternoon as the Milwaukee Brewers vied for a split in their four-game series with the visiting Atlanta Braves.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis got the start in right field and batted fifth in the lineup in place of Braun, who isn't injured and is likely catching his breath after a blistering performance at the plate of late. The 2011 National League Most Valuable Player is hitting .375 with six homers, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored over his last 20 games.
