Cincinnati Bengals first-round draft pick William Jackson suffered a torn pectoral muscle in a recent practice and is sidelined indefinitely, according to multiple reports.

Jackson, a cornerback, was injured late in Monday night's practice. The injury could sideline him up to three months and possibly cost him his entire rookie season.

The Bengals are relying on Jackson to give their secondary a boost. He had five interceptions for Houston last season and is a strong cover corner.

Cincinnati also agreed to terms with H-back Ryan Hewitt on a three-year contract extension, the team announced.

Hewitt's extension runs through the 2019 season. He is completing the final season of a three-year deal in 2016.

Hewitt has played in 31 games for the Bengals since being undrafted out of Stanford in the 2014 NFL draft. He has started 23 games and has thrived as a run blocker and pass protector.

"Ryan came to us undrafted and quickly became an integral part of our offense," coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement. "He's a strong and physical player. His role of doing the dirty work may go unnoticed sometimes by the public, but it is never unnoticed by his teammates or our opponents. We're excited to have him on board now for well beyond this season."

Hewitt, 25, has 18 receptions for 185 yards during his two seasons.
