San Diego Chargers veteran wide receiver Stevie Johnson is facing surgery after suffering a torn meniscus in Sunday's practice, according to multiple reports.

Johnson caught a ball during a pass play and immediately clutched his right leg as he fell to the ground without being contacted. Marty Caswell of The Mighty 1090 in San Diego reported that the 30-year-old Johnson said Monday that he expects to have surgery in the next few days.

It is uncertain whether the surgery will effectively end Johnson's season.

Keenan Allen is expected to receive the bulk of the catches this season for San Diego, while free-agent acquisition Travis Benjamin and Dontrelle Inman could see additional opportunities in the absence of Johnson.

Johnson reeled in 45 receptions for 497 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games last season for the Chargers.

A seventh-round selection in the 2008 draft, Johnson has 381 catches for 4,764 yards and 34 touchdowns in 99 career contests.
