The Boston Red Sox placed Chris Young on the disabled list Friday, one day after the outfielder strained his right hamstring.

Young suffered the injury after hitting a single and making an aggressive turn around first base. He fell to the ground, was attended to by the training staff and had to be helped off the field.

"From what you saw on the field, we're hopeful it's not as severe," manager John Farrell said after Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. "He felt a little popping sensation when he was rounding first base. This is significant enough that we can make the DL call right now."

Boston recalled outfielder Bryce Brentz from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill the roster spot.

Young is the third different Boston left fielder to get hurt this season. Brock Holt (concussion) and Blake Swihart (ankle) remain sidelined.
