Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right quadriceps.

The club announced before Saturday's game at the Boston Red Sox that Darwin Barney would start at shortstop and that left-handed pitcher Aaron Loup was activated from the 15-day DL to take Tulowitzki's spot on the 25-man roster.

Tulowitzki missed two games this week with a sore quadriceps before returning to the lineup Friday. However, he aggravated the injury and an MRI was taken Saturday.

Tulowitzki, 31, is batting just .204 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs in 46 games this season.
