The Boston Celtics and forward David Lee have parted ways, the club announced Friday. The Celtics officially waived Lee after discussing a buyout of his contract with Lee's agent over the previous few days.
"We thank David for his contributions to our organization and wish him nothing but the best in the future," president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in a statement.
Lee, 32, averaged 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 30 games for the Celtics this season. He last appeared in a contest on Jan. 10 and coach Brad Stevens recently said the lack of action was due to differences in Boston's style of play and Lee's skills.
Lee has career averages of 14.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over 11 NBA seasons. He is a two-time All-Star and played with the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors before joining the Celtics prior to this season.
