Argentina's Fabian Gomez made seven consecutive birdies at one stretch Sunday, then edged Brandt Snedeker on the second hole of a playoff to win the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Gomez, who closed with an 8-under-par at Waialae in Honolulu, birdied the second playoff hole after both players parred the first extra hole. Snedeker's final putt to halve the hole rolled past the cup, giving Gomez the victory.
Gomez's only other PGA Tour win came in the FedEx St. Jude Classic last June.
Gomez said through an interpreter, "I felt pretty good during the round, but with two bogeys (on the back nine), I lost the momentum, but then the birdie on 17 gave me the confidence to (close it out."

Snedeker made five birdies and five pars over the final 10 holes of regulation -- including a birdie on the 72nd hole -- to force the playoff.
"I had some good looks coming down the stretch, and uncharacteristically, I hit some pretty weak putts," Snedeker said. "I just never felt comfortable with the speed of the greens all week. I fought hard and gave myself a chance, but all in all, I've got to figure out a way to get it done, and I didn't do it."
Zac Blair, who shared the lead with Snedeker after the third round, closed with a 67 after finished alone in third place at 261.
South Korean Si Woo Kim fired a 68 on Sunday to take fourth place at 264.
Kevin Kisner (final-round 70) and England's Greg Owen (64) shared fifth place at 265.
Jamie Lovemark (65) and Canada's Graham DeLaet (66) wound up at 266, tied for seventh.
Jerry Kelly (67), Zach Johnson (67), Hudson Swafford (67) and Jason Dufner (68) finished in a tie for ninth at 267.
Jimmy Walker, the two-time defending Sony Open champion, was among a group of 16 players that shot 268 and tied for 13th.
