Jacksonville Jaguars' young receivers provide hope for future

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One promising development that bodes well for the Jacksonville Jaguars' future is the improvement of their two young receivers, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

Both had over 1,000 yards in receiving in just their second seasons to give them two 1,000-yard receivers for the first time since Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell did it in 2001.

Hurns now has 1,013 yards receiving to go along with 10 touchdowns after he caught eight passes for 106 yards and two scores against the Saints.

Robinson had six receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown. Robinson has 75 catches for 1,292 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"We didn't get the win today, but it's really a big accomplishment, just showing how we progressed from year one to year two,'' Hurns said.

He said they were motivated by talk that the Jaguars might sign Randall Cobb or draft Amari Cooper, although they did neither.

"This season we both stayed (in Jacksonville) putting in the work and competed with each other,'' Hurns said. "Coming into the year the talk was we need to draft a receiver, we need a veteran receiver. We took that personal so each time we're out there on the field we're letting people know that we're going to continue to make plays and it's only beginning for us.''

--The Jaguars showed they have communication problems when the Saints faced a fourth-and-5 at the Jaguars' 43 on their first series.

"There was a call in and some guys got the call and some guys didn't,'' coach Gus Bradley said.

With some players playing zone and other players playing man, it wasn't surprising that Brees threw a 23-yard pass to keep the first drive alive.

"Communication is something that you grow with your defense throughout the year, and I feel like that's something that hasn't really come along with us as well as we would like as a defense,'' linebacker Dan Skuta said. "That's something we were talking about early in the year and it's still kind of lingering here.

"Guys have got to talk out there. We picked up a little bit there and it's got to be something that's all the time.''

--Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu suffered a right ankle injury Sunday against New Orleans and was in a boot but said he will play Sunday.

--Defensive end Jared Odrick suffered a quad contusion Sunday but hopes to play Sunday.

--Defensive end Abry Jones suffered a bone bruise on his knee Sunday and was on crutches Monday. His condition will be updated Wednesday.

--Offensive tackle Jermey Parnell suffered a hamstring injury Sunday and his condition will be updated Wednesday.

--Offensive tackle Luke Joeckel reported lower back and right knee soreness after the game Sunday and his condition will be updated Wednesday.

--Running back T.J. Yeldon has missed the last two games with a sprained MCL and his condition will be updated Wednesday.

--Linebacker Telvin Smith missed the Saints game with a slight shoulder separation and his condition will be updated Wednesday.
