EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New England Patriots left tackle Sebastian Vollmer was carted off the field with a leg injury with 10:31 remaining in the first quarter Sunday and will not return against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Vollmer was injured while blocking for running back Joey Iosefa, who was stopped for no gain on a third-and-1 from the Patriots' 30-yard-line. Members of both teams crouched near Vollmer as he was tended to by the medical staff. Vollmer hobbled to the cart and received pats on the back from multiple players before being driven off.

Minutes later, the Patriots announced Vollmer was out for the game.

Vollmer is just the latest vital player to suffer a potentially serious injury for the Patriots. Starting wide receivers Julian Edelman (foot) and Danny Amendola (knee) and starting safeties Devin McCourty (ankle) and Patrick Chung (undisclosed) were all inactive Sunday for New England, which has 14 players on injured reserve -- including its top two running backs, Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount.

Jets running back Chris Ivory left the game in the first half with a knee injury, but was back to start the second half.

Ivory had six carries for 28 yards and two catches for seven yards in the first quarter. He rushed for two yards on the final play of the first quarter and wasn't targeted on either of the Jets' first two plays of the second quarter. The Jets announced his injury following a nearly six-minute drive by the Patriots that ended with a field goal.
