Milwaukee head coach Jason Kidd will undergo hip surgery Monday and will be sidelined indefinitely, the Bucks announced Sunday.

Assistant coach Joe Prunty will assume head coaching responsibilities during Kidd's absence.

"I have every confidence in Joe to lead our team during my absence," Kidd said. "Joe has many years of coaching experience both in the NBA and in international competition. He's well-respected in the league, and I know our players and coaches will give their all during Joe's time as head coach."

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Kidd will miss "significant time" in the next month, although he hopes to be back in the office in two weeks.

"I tried to put off surgery for as long as I could, but after consulting with my doctor, he advised that the best course of action was to have the procedure now," Kidd said.

Kidd is in his second season as head coach of the Bucks and third season overall as an NBA head coach after a 19-year NBA playing career with the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks.

Prunty is currently in his 20th season in the NBA, including his second season as an assistant coach with the Bucks after serving as an assistant coach under Kidd with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2013-14 season.
