Argentina's Emiliano Grillo edged Nevada's Kevin Na on the second playoff hole Sunday to win the Frys.com Open in Napa, Calif., the opener of the PGA Tour's 2015-16 season.

Grillo closed with a 3-under-par 69 on the North Course at Silverado Country Club, leaving him at 15-under 273. Playing his first event as an official member of the PGA Tour, Grillo rolled in a long birdie putt on the 72nd hole to put himself in position to make the playoff.

Na joined him at 273 with a late-round surge that resulted in a 70. He was 2 over par for the day before back-to-back birdies at Nos. 13 and 14, and he added birdies at No. 16 and No. 18.

Both players made par on the first playoff hole, the 575-yard 18th. On the second playoff hole, again at No. 18, Na hit his drive in the fairway while Grillo knocked his drive into a fairway bunker.

Na decided to use driver in the fairway to go for the green, but his attempt landed short, left and under a tree. His third shot went through the branches but sailed the green, and he misfired on two putts.

Grillo's sand shot landed far short of the green, but his approach settled just below the hole, and he sank the winning putt for his first victory in the United States.

Brendan Steele, who led after each of the first three rounds, endured an epic meltdown on the back nine of the final round. Holding a share of the lead after playing the first 11 holes Sunday at even par, Steele finished with five bogeys and two pars on the last seven holes. He followed consecutive bogeys at Nos. 12 and 13 with a par, then lost another shot on each of the next three holes.

He wound up with a 76 on the day and shockingly fell into a tie for 17th at 278.

South Africa's Tyrone Van Aswegen (final-round 68), Justin Thomas (69) and Jason Bohn (70) tied for third place at 274.

England's Justin Rose (72), South Africa's Charl Schwartzel (68), Patrick Rodgers (70) and Kyle Reifers (72) shared sixth place.

Seven players, including Ryan Moore (68), tied for 10th.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, the world's third-ranked player, closed with a 69 and wound up tied for 26th at 279.
