Serena Williams beats Garbine Muguruza, clinches sixth Wimbledon title

LONDON, July 11 (UPI) -- Serena Williams won the Wimbledon Ladies Final on Saturday over Spain's Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-4 to take her sixth Wimbledon singles tennis title.

For Williams, 33, it's her fourth Grand Slam championship in a row and 21st major overall. Now Williams holds all four Grand Slam titles at once, or the second "Serena Slam" of her career. If she wins the U.S. Open, she'll become the first player to sweep the four majors in the same season since Steffi Graf in 1988.

"It feels so good, it's been a little while and I really appreciate holding it (the trophy). Garbine played so well, I didn't know it was over -- you'll be holding this trophy very soon, believe me," she said shortly after her win. "I'm just happy it was such a great match. I can't believe I'm standing here with another 'Serena Slam'. There was definitely a bit of pressure towards the end."

Off to a slow 4-2 start in the first set, Williams went on to take the next four games to win the set. She continued to struggle into the second set, but rebounded taking a 5-1 lead in the second set. Muguruza fought back, bringing the match to 5-4 but was not able to hold on to the lead.

"My serve was really shaky today, but also she's a great returner," Williams said. "She really forced me to go for more balls."
