Williams lost just two games, defeating No. 28 seed Zarina Diyas 6-2, 6-0 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
In other action featuring a top-five seeded player, third-seeded Simona Halep topped No. 26 seed Varvara Lepchenko.
Heather Watson upset seventh-seeded Agniezska Radwanska 6-4, 6-4 and No. 27 seed Timea Bacsinszky surprised eighth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. No. 23 seed Elina Svitolina took down 10th-seeded Lucie Safarova 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 and Sloane Stephens defeated 22nd-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-4.
Other winners included 12th-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro and No. 14 seed Karolina Pliskova.
The 2015 titlist will earn $900,400.
