Wickmayer, Van Uytvanck to play for WTA Challenger title

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- No. 2-seeded Yanina Wickmayer and Alison Van Uytvanck will play for the championship of the OEC Taipei WTA Challenger after straight-set wins Saturday.

Wickmayer had little trouble in getting past Luksika Kumkhum 6-3, 6-1 in her semifinal. She allowed Kumkhum just two break chances while finished off five of her own 11 break opportunities.

Wickmayer dropped only 18 points on serve on the day and won 27-of-53 points off Kumkhum's serve.

Van Uytvanck defeated Dinah Pfizenmaier 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 by fighting off 12 of the 15 break points she faced. Pfizenmaier had nine break chances in the second set but Van Uytvanck dropped serve just once in the set while converting both of her break chances.

Wickmayer and Van Uytvanck have met once before in their career, with Wickmayer taking a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 decision in 2011.

Wickmayer is 3-6 in WTA finals but has gone 0-4 in championship matches since winning the ASB Classic in New Zealand in January 2010. She's 10-7 in ITF finals but hasn't won on that level since October 2010. Van Uytvanck, yet to make a main WTA event title match, has won nine of her 14 ITF finals. She has three ITF wins this year.
