Hull-Kirk, Anna Nordqvist lead LPGA tournament in South Korea

INCHEON, South Korea, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Katherine Hull-Kirk and Anna Nordqvist both turned in 2-under-par 70s Saturday and share a one-stroke lead at the LPGA tournament in South Korea.

While Hull-Kirk and Nordqvist had the same score in the second round of the 54-hole event, they got there in very different ways. Nordqvist had four birdies and two bogeys while Hull-Kirk battled through a round that included an eagle, five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey,

That left them at 7-under 137 after 36 holes. Defending champion Suzann Pettersen, with a 69 in the second round, Pak Ju-young and Amy Yang are tied for third at 6-under. Pak and Yang were tied with Hull-Kirk and Nordqvist for first after the first round. They shot 1-under 71s Saturday.

Kim Seo-young, Seo Hee-kyung and Alison Walshe all had 68s in the second round and are tied with Kim Ha-neul, who shot 70 Saturday, for sixth, two strokes behind the leaders.

Hull-Kirk was 2-under Saturday after three holes before a bogey at the fourth hole. She answered that with an eagle at the par-5 fifth and made it to 4-under on the day with a birdie at No. 7.

But she bogeyed the par-3 eighth and had a 6 at the par-4 ninth to fall back. Her second round was more steady with birdies at Nos. 13 and 17 offsetting a bogey at 15.

Nordqvist birdied No. 3 and but dropped four strokes back of Hull-Kirk after a bogey at No. 7 but made up five strokes with birdies at 8 and 9 where Hull-Kirk was posting bogey-double bogey. She bogeyed 14 and birdies No. 15 in finishing at 70.

The formal name of the tournament is the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship.
