MLB: Philadelphia 6, Atlanta 5

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Freddy Galvis pounded a game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday, salvaging a 6-5 win for the Philadelphia Phillies over Atlanta.

The Phillies were leading 5-3 in the ninth but the Braves forged a tie when Andrelton Simmons connected for a two-out, two-run homer off closer Jonathan Papelbon (5-1).

Philadelphia quickly responded, however, when Galvis (4-for-5) went deep against Freddy Garcia (0-1) with one out in the next half-inning, enabling the Phillies to even their three-game series.

Carlos Ruiz drove in three runs for the winners. Cesar Hernandez and Kevin Frandsen each contributed three hits to Philadelphia's cause.

Simmons finished 3-for-4 and Freddie Freeman provided two RBI for National League East-leading Atlanta.
