NFL: Carolina 25, Pittsburgh 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Derek Anderson threw two long first-half touchdown passes Thursday in leading Carolina to a 25-10 exhibition decision over Pittsburgh.

The Panthers completed a 3-1 preseason with Anderson, the backup to Carolina starter Cam Newton, going 10-of-15 for 220 yards.

Both of Anderson's touchdown passes went to Ted Ginn -- a 35-yarder that finished off Carolina's first possession and an 88-yarder with 4:40 to go in the first half.

Graham Gano kicked three field goals for the Panthers.

Landry Jones, a late-round draft pick for the Steelers this year out of Oklahoma, went the distance while completing 15-of-33 passes for 178 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Pittsburgh did not win any of its exhibition games this year.

The Steelers will begin their quest for a return to the playoffs when they play host to Tennessee in their regular-season opener on Sept. 8. Carolina will be at home as well that day taking on Seattle.
