WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded American Sam Querrey waited out a rain delay Monday, then scored a second-round win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez at the Winston-Salem Open.
Action was halted for 4 hours before Querrey and Garcia-Lopez took the court. Querrey then proceeded to outlast the Spaniard 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the U.S. Open tuneup.
Also Monday, Dutchman Robin Haase moved on to the third round with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 upset of 12th-seeded Czech Lukas Rosol while Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu ousted No. 16 Pablo Andujar, 6-4, 6-3.
Other Day 2 winners included Americans James Blake, Tim Smyczek and Steve Johnson, Belgian David Goffin, Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis, Spain's Roberto Bautista and Daniel Gimeno-Traver, Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker, Argentine Guido Pella, and France's Guillaume Rufin and Nicolas Mahut.
Two-time defending champ John Isner and 2012 runner-up Tomas Berdych each pulled out of the event with injuries Monday.
