CINCINNATI, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Mat Latos fired 7 1/3 shutout innings Tuesday, staking the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 interleague victory over Oakland.
Latos (11-3) notched his third win in four starts, baffling the Athletics on four hits. The right-hander walked three and struck out three in the 108-pitch performance.
J.J. Hoover recorded the final two outs of the eighth and Aroldis Chapman picked up his 26th save despite allowing a run in the ninth as the Reds took the opener of a two-game interleague set.
Jay Bruce smacked a solo homer and Brandon Phillips also provided an RBI for Cincinnati.
A's starter Dan Straily (6-6) was hung with the loss, surrendering a pair of runs on six hits in a four-inning effort.
Derek Norris socked a bases-empty homer for American League West-leading Oakland.
