MLB: Texas 4, Oakland 0

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Derek Holland twirled eight shutout innings Sunday, striking out 10 in the Texas Rangers' 4-0 whitewash of division rival Oakland.

Holland (9-6) scattered four hits and walked two, placing 77-of-112 pitches for strikes as the second-place Rangers took the rubber match of a key three-game series against American League West-leading Oakland.

Mitch Moreland bashed a two-run homer and Nelson Cruz added a solo shot for Texas, which pulled to within 2 1/2 games of the Athletics.

Oakland starter A.J. Griffin (10-8) was touched for four runs (three earned) on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven.
