MLB: Arizona 3, Miami 1

PHOENIX, June 19 (UPI) -- Cody Ross slammed a pinch-hit three-run homer to back reliever Josh Collmenter's six shutout innings Wednesday in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 3-1 win over Miami.

The game was scoreless until the eighth inning, when Miami starter Jose Fernandez issued a leadoff walk to Jason Kubel and put Didi Gregorius aboard with a free pass one out later

Mike Dunn came in to pitch and Ross, batting for Eric Hinske, belted a pitch deep into the left field seats.

Collmenter came on in the second inning after Arizona starter Trevor Cahill exited the game with an apparent hip injury after being struck by Marcell Ozuna's hard-hit grounder.

The right-hander stifled the Marlins on just one hit over six innings, walking one and fanning seven.

David Hernandez (4-4) earned the win with a scoreless eighth and Heath Bell picked up his 13th save despite allowing a homer to Justin Ruggiano and allowing two more base runners in the ninth before fanning Logan Morrison for the final out.
