Matt Kuchar leads suspended second round at Colonial

FORT WORTH, Texas, May 24 (UPI) -- Matt Kuchar, trying to become the second multiple winner on the PGA Tour this year, had the lead Friday when play at the Colonial Invitational was suspended.

Kuchar was 5-under for the day through 15 holes and 10-under for the tournament when a late-afternoon thunderstorm struck the area. Play was also halted for 2 hours earlier in the day.

The second round will resume at 8:15 a.m. local time on Saturday, after which the third round will be played.

There were 51 players still on the course when the action was stopped. Kuchar had hit his tee shot at the par-3 16th to within 40 feet of the cup when the horn sounded.

Graham DeLaet shot a 67 early in the day Friday and his 9-under 131 total put him in second place. Josh Teater, former champion Steve Flesch and 19-year-old Jordan Spieth all finished 36 holes at 8-under 132 while first-round leader Ryan Palmer was at 8-under with six holes to play.

Kuchar captured the WGC-Accenture World Match Play tournament earlier this year. Only Tiger Woods has won more than once on the tour in 2013 and he has won four times.

Kuchar has made just one bogey in 33 holes this week, but some of the other front-runners have found trouble at the Colonial Country Club course.

DeLaet missed a chance to take the lead by himself when he bogeyed three holes in a row on his back nine and Teater bogeyed three holes in a six-hole stretch on his second nine.

One of the day's biggest disappointments, however, was suffered by Boo Weekley. He moved into a share of the lead late in his round after playing the first 11 holes in 7-under. Birdies on four of his last seven holes would have given him a 59, but he suffered two bogeys and a double bogey on his way to a 67 that left him in a tie for ninth place at 134.

Defending champion Zach Johnson played the first 16 holes in 5-under and was at 6-under for the tournament -- four shots off the lead.
