MLB: Oakland 9, Texas 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 20 (UPI) -- Bartolo Colon hurled seven strong innings and the Oakland Athletics backed him with 15 hits Monday in their 9-2 win over Texas.

Colon (4-2) stopped the Rangers on two runs, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out three. The veteran right-hander broke a four-start winless streak with the decision.

Seth Smith went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, drove in two runs and scored three times while Coco Crisp added three hits and an RBI for the Athletics, who romped in the opener of a three-game series.

Josh Donaldson and Chris Young each provided two hits with an RBI in the victory.

Josh Lindblom (0-1) was touched for four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings for Texas in his first major-league start.

Jurickson Profar drove in both Rangers runs.
