ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 10 (UPI) -- Ryan Roberts and Ben Zobrist both drove in two runs during the seventh inning Friday, rallying Tampa Bay past San Diego 6-3.
The Rays trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh, but sent 10 men to the plate in that inning and wound up leaving the bases loaded after scoring four runs.
Roberts and Zobrist had back-to-back, two-run singles in the inning, boosting the Rays to their third straight victory. San Diego had won four in a row, equaling its longest such streak of the season.
Jake McGee (1-2) picked up the victory in relief by working a perfect top of the seventh prior to the Rays' comeback. Fernando Rodney came on in the ninth to claim his fifth save.
San Diego built an early 3-0 lead on solo homers by Will Venable and Carlos Quentin in the first and a run scored by Venable in the third on a balk.
Dale Thayer (0-2) took the loss by becoming the victim of the Rays' outburst in the seventh. Thayer did not retire a batter in the inning.
