Houston took a 3-2 lead in Friday's contest with a three-run seventh, but the Astros missed a chance for more after having two men on with just one away.

The inability to bring in more runs in the seventh wound up costing the Astros, who lost their fourth straight game.

Don Kelly drew a leadoff walk in the ninth off Jose Veras (0-2). After Jhonny Peralta flew out to center, Avila hit a 3-1 pitch over the wall in center.

Drew Smyly (2-0) retired all six men he faced to get the victory in relief. Jose Valverde allowed a one-out walk in the ninth, but recorded his third save in as many chances.
