Allen holds off Langer for Mississippi win

BILOXI, Miss., March 24 (UPI) -- Michael Allen rallied for the lead and held off Bernhard Langer down the stretch Sunday to win the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic for his fourth career title.

Allen, starting the final round two shots back, reeled off five consecutive birdies on the front nine to charge into the lead. He held sole possession of the top spot until the 16th, when he carded a bogey to allow Langer to pull even at 11-under-par 205.

Langer bogeyed the 16th and parred the last two holes to end at minus-10, handing the title to Allen, who finished the final round with a 5-under 67.

Langer carded a 2-under 70, while Russ Cochran matched Allen's 67 to end up sharing third with Tom Pernice Jr. (71) and Gene Sauers (71) at 8-under 208.
