MLB: San Diego 5, Arizona 4

PHOENIX, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Edinson Volquez was shaky early but then settled down, pitching the San Diego Padres to their seventh straight victory, 5-4 over Arizona Sunday.

Volquez (9-9) surrendered a pair of first-inning runs but then closed the door with six shutout frames. The right-hander allowed four hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Luke Gregerson recorded the final four outs to pick up his first save as the Padres downed the Diamondbacks for the sixth straight meeting.

Mark Kotsay's RBI single in the third broke a 3-3 tie, while Carlos Quentin and Alexi Amarista later added run-scoring hits to provide the winning margin for San Diego.

The Padres nicked Arizona starter Trevor Cahill (9-11) for four runs on eight hits in a 3 2/3-inning start.

Aaron Hill socked a two-run homer in the eighth for the D-backs to make it close.
