NFL: Philadelphia 24, Pittsburgh 23

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A 51-yard field goal by Alex Henery in the closing seconds gave the Philadelphia Eagles a 24-23 win over cross-state rival Pittsburgh Thursday.

Henery booted the game-winner with 12 seconds to play and gave the Eagles an emotional win just two days after the funeral for Garret Reid, the eldest son of Philadelphia Coach Andy Reid.

Garrett Reid died of undetermined causes last weekend at the Eagles' training camp at Lehigh University.

The winning kick was Henery's only field goal try of the game and capped a 24-point second half for the Eagles, who trailed 13-0 at halftime.

Rookie Nick Foles threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, and Trent Edwards threw for 106 yards. Michael Vick was 3-of-4 for 6 yards.

Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger was an efficient 7-for-8 for 49 yards and veteran Byron Leftwich threw a 2-yard TD pass in the second quarter to put the Steelers ahead 10-0.
