MLB: Baltimore 2, Minnesota 1

MINNEAPOLIS, July 18 (UPI) -- Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the first inning Wednesday and three Baltimore pitchers made it stand up for the Orioles in a 2-1 win over Minnesota.

Starter Tommy Hunter and relievers Troy Patton and Jim Johnson combined to allow a run on seven hits to snap Baltimore's three-game losing streak.

Hunter (4-4) lasted 7 1/3 innings while giving up the Twins' only run on Josh Willingham's fourth-inning homer.

Patton loaded the bases with two out in the eighth before working out of the jam, and Johnson survived a leadoff single in the ninth to record his 27th save, tied for most in the American League.

The hard-luck loss went to Francisco Liriano (3-9), who struck out 10 over six innings. The homer by Jones was one of only four hits Liriano allowed.
